Seminar and Reunion Dinner 2008
The Chiropractic Alumni (tCa) is proud to announce it’s annual multi-topic seminar on Saturday August 16, 2008 . A fabulous list of experts in various fields will inform and challenge both experienced and younger clinicians. This is day with information for everyone.
The whole day is aimed squarely at the graduates of Macquarie University and The Sydney College of Chiropractic. It is an event for all graduates plus those planning a reunion. A fabulous and fun Reunion Dinner will be held on the Saturday night. tCa has organised several very memorable reunion dinners that have everyone laughing and happy.
The theme for the Seminar is: “ Problematic Head and TMJ pain ”. About the speakers:
Dr. Derek Mahony is a Specialist Orthodontist and is expert on Clinical Paediatric Dentistry and Dentofacial Orthopaedics; Dr. Mahony is based in Sydney though is a keenly sought after speaker in North America, Europe and Asia. He will speak on occlusion/Temporomandibular dysfunction and pain and the interface to chiropractors. Current alternative management strategies including orofacial orthopaedics and orthdontics will be covered.
Dr. Allan Kalamir – Australia ’s leading chiropractic researcher on TMJ disorders, Dr. Kalamir has written several very comprehensive articles about TMJ conditions and these demonstrate his command on the subject. He will provide a revision of osseous adjustment theory, integrating basic intraoral cranial techniques for the TMJ into a simple intervention protocol and revising the phenomenon of TMD from a thegotic pardigm: which is essentially the theory that bruxism is not a pathological activity as currently believed, but rather a phylogenetically evolved “tooth sharpening” mechanism. Dr. Kalamir will demonstrate and give an opportunity for ‘hands on’ practice of intraoral soft tissue techniques and a review of techniques addressing disc displacement with reduction. His presentation will open your eyes to new approaches in TMJ management.
Dr. Peter Tuchin is an award winning Macquarie University researcher who is well known for his groundbreaking studies into migraine and the effectiveness of chiropractic management in this disorder. The topic: “Recent changes in the chiropractic science and management of headaches and migraine” will bring anyone who is interested up-to date.
Dr Geoff Lambert is a neurophysiologist at the University of NSW who has studied “How does migraine treatment work? -The role of nitric oxide in dural artery sensation”. He will describe how in migraine sufferers, the nervous system’s sensitivity is set too high and how it is triggered by innocuous influences.
Also, Natalie Wallace from Metagenics - Health World Limited; will be delivering current research on nutritional support for joint and muscular conditions. The presentation will cover Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphate and will address the current myths and misconceptions on these supplements.
