Acromioclavicular Sprain

Pollard H. Quodling N. McHardy A. Acromioclavicular sprain: case history and review. Journal of the Neuromusculoskeletal System. 2002 Spring; 10(1): 13-9.

The acromioclavicular (AC) joint is a common site of injury in presentations to sports chiropractors. The injury often presents as a result of a fall onto the shoulder or onto an outstretched arm. The resultant injury to the AC joint may range from a minor ligamentous sprain to major ligamentous disruption with accompanying fracture and/or neurovascular compromise. Injuries respond positively to conservative treatment, though surgery may be required in complicated cases. A case report of an AC joint injury in a rugby football player and discussion of the anatomy, biomechanics, and treatment relating to the injury is presented.
