Abstracts

Mr. Michael Lee is currently in the final stages of his PhD candidature with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney. In addition, Michael also consults as a chiropractor and physiotherapist in St. Leonards, specializing in sports, occupational and over-used injuries.

Michael first obtained his Bachelor degree in 1999 from UNSW, major in anatomy and physiology. He then completed his Masters in Chiropractic from Macquarie University in 2001, and Masters in Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland in 2003. In addition, Michael has also completed postgraduate certifications in Active Release Techniques (A.R.T. Ò ) and Exercise Kinesiology from the C.H.E.K. Institute. With his background in physiotherapy, Michael has tutored EPT at Macquarie University and is currently tutoring part-time at UNSW in the Department of Health and Exercise Science teaching exercise rehabilitation.

Michael’s PhD focus is on the contralateral training effect of unilateral resistance training (also known as the ‘cross education” effect). He utilizes peripheral nerve stimulation and magnetic brain stimulation techniques to identify the site/s and nature of neural adaptation induced by resistance training. Michael’s other research interest include human motor control, neuroscience, exercise physiology and physiology of chronic pain. Michael is a member of COCA, and APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association).
