Chiropractic Outpatient Teaching Clinics

Our Outpatient Clinics play an important role in the teaching and research activities of the Chiropractic component of the Department. These Clinics are also an important part of the Department’s community outreach and visibility. Students, staff and the general public are encouraged to utilise these facilities and receive chiropractic care from our final year Masters students.

Currently, the Department maintains a number of Chiropractic Clinics. These are currently at Summer Hill (renovated between March - July 2006), Eastwood and Lane Cove (opened in late August 2006). In early 2006, the department also maintained a successful on campus clinic, subsequently there are plans to re-establish on an On-Campus Clinic. These Clinics are designed to provide clinical intern training for Masters of Chiropractic students. Follow this link for more information about our Clinics.

Chiropractic Techniques Laboratories

Chiropractic technique training functions as a critical part of the preparation of a professional Chiropractor at Macquarie and forms an important part of both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs. On the Macquarie Campus, the Department operates three Chiropractic Techniques Teaching Laboratories (one laboratory is also a Rehabilitation Technique room).

Anatomy Teaching

The Department runs our introductory anatomy and histology units at Macquarie. We utilise the facilities at the University of Sydney to allow second and third year students to further study anatomy in wet labs with cadavers.

Radiology

All Outpatient’s Clinics are equipped with modern high-frequency X-Ray facilities. The X-Ray Unit at the Epping Clinic also contains teaching facilities for 15 students at a time to receive practical training in spinal and peripheral radiography as well as darkroom experience.

On Campus at Macquarie University, X-Ray facilities include an upright bucky/tube combination. The Department also has a modern radiology research laboratory, which is currently used for comparing various radiation doses derived from videofluoroscopy and plain film imaging utilising Lithium Fluoride Dosimetry as well as Lumbopelvic and Cervical Anthropomorphic Phantoms for teaching purposes.

Finally, the Department maintains a RADLAB teaching facility which includes a teaching and research library of radiological and medical images.

Microbiology/Chemistry Laboratories

The Department has access to Microbiology Laboratories in the Department of Biological Science as well as Chemistry Laboratories in the Department of Chemical and Bimolecular Sciences. The department has also acquired laboratories for Higher Degree Research Students in the Animal Laboratories to be utilised for research in spinal studies.
