Health @ Macquarie

Macquarie University has a long tradition of teaching and research in the area of Health Studies. As befits its multidisciplinary nature, a range of departments across the University contribute to the Health Studies field. These include Anthropology, Biology, Health & Chiropractic, Human Geography, Demography, Politics, Psychology and Sociology, to name just a few. Of these, the Department of Health & Chiropractic is formally responsible for coordinating offerings in this area.

The convenor of the Health Studies Program at Macquarie University is Ms Lindie Clark. The Health Studies Program currently comprises of:

A number of undergraduate health-related units are also open to students across the university, even if they are not enrolled in one of these formal programs of study: for example, HLTH 107 Introduction to Anatomy; HLTH 132 Introduction to Histology; HLTH 200 Contemporary Health Issues; HLTH302 Ethical and Legal Issues in Health; HLTH300 Health Placement

Longer term plans for the further development of Health Studies at Macquarie University include the introduction of a Bachelor of Health in Indigenous Health, and a variety of postgraduate certificate, diploma, and Masters programs in specialised areas of health

Macquarie Health Studies are designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary view of health and an integrated awareness of the determinants and consequences of health and ill health in contemporary societies.
