Why Study Chiropractic in Australia?

Many students wishing to undertake chiropractic studies must seek programs internationally as there is currently no local chiropractic program at a tertiary level. Macquarie University, located in Sydney Australia, offers Norwegian students an opportunity to undertake internationally recognised Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in Chiropractic. As one of the few Universities world wide offering Chiropractic education up to PhD level, students can be assured of the highest standard of quality. With exceptional equipment and clinical facilities, internationally recognised staff and a student satisfaction rating second to none, choosing Macquarie is made simple.

Chiropractic Program Overview:

Students wishing to gain qualifications leading to professional registration as a Chiropractor in Norway must undertake a recognised program of study of not less than 4,500 hours. Macquarie’s program structure involves completion of the Bachelor of Chiropractic Science AND completion of the Master of Chiropractic. Combined, these two degrees, taken over five years, are equivalent to the North American Doctor of Chiropractic. The final year includes extensive clinical practice under supervision at one of our three Clinics .

Students with Completed Degrees:

Students who hold a completed degree in a health science or science related field, may apply for the Master of Chiropractic Qualifying program, without needing to enrol in the Bachelor of Chiropractic Science. This program is tailored to each student and is based on the content of their previously completed studies. The program length can vary from 1-2 years.

For students who hold a completed Bachelor of Physiology approved by the Norwegian Physiotherapist Association, this Qualifying program can be completed in 1 year.

Once students have completed this Qualifying Program, they can apply for the 2 year Master of Chiropractic program. It is the completed Master of Chiropractic program which is required to gain registration as a chiropractor in Australia and New Zealand. Graduates may also apply for registration in other countries and will need to ensure that they meet any requirements as dictated by the various chiropractic registration bodies in these countries.

Making the Leap:

Deciding to study overseas requires research and planning. There is much to be considered. Macquarie University, the Department of Health & Chiropractic and our Norwegian agents have simplified the application process and can provide answers to all of your questions, from visa requirements, through to registering for practise in your home state or province.
