Why Study Chiropractic in Australia?

Applications to Canadian Chiropractic colleges far exceed available places, Many students wishing to undertake chiropractic studies must therefore seek programs elsewhere. Macquarie University, located in Sydney Australia, offers Canadian students an opportunity to undertake internationally recognised Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in Chiropractic. As one of the few Universities world wide offering Chiropractic education up to PhD level, students can be assured of the highest standard of quality. Chiropractic Program Overview:

Students wishing to gain qualifications leading to professional registration as a Chiropractor in Canada must undertake a recognised program of study of not less than 4,500 hours. Macquarie’s program structure involves completion of the Bachelor of Chiropractic Science AND completion of the Master of Chiropractic. Combined, these two degrees, taken over five years, are equivalent to the Doctor of Chiropractic offered at Canadian institutions. Students undertake 12 months of clinical practice at on of our three Chiropractic Clinics prior to graduation.

Students with Completed Degrees:

Students who hold a completed degree in a health science or related area may apply for the Master of Chiropractic Qualifying program. This program is tailored to each student and is based on the content of their previously completed studies. The program length can vary from 1-2 years. On completion of the Qualifying program, students are eligible to apply for and enter the Master of Chiropractic. Further details of this pathway are available on our web site.

Making the Leap:

Deciding to study overseas requires research and planning. There is much to be considered. Macquarie University, the Dept of Health & Chiropractic and our Canadian agents have simplified the application process and can provide answers to all of your questions, from visa requirements, through to registering for practise in your home state or province. University Application and Enrolment Details:

As the leading chiropractic training institution in Australia, entrance to our programs is highly competitive.
Entrance to:

the Bachelor of Chiropractic Science requires the minimum OAC average of 73. (2006/07)

the Postgraduate Qualifying program requires the completion of a relevant health science degree at a credit average (75%) pass.

the Master of Chiropractic is automatic for those successfully completing the Bachelor of Chiropractic or Masters Qualifying program.

Programs commence in late February / early March. Enrolment is in mid-February.

Programme Fees:

Fees are approximately $AUD775 per credit point. There are 72 credit points in the Bachelor degree and 64 in the Masters. Fees for the Qualifying program are also approximately $AUD775, though the total cost is dependant on the number of units/course required. Students may take relevant undergraduate science units within Canada but will only be able to enter the Master of Chiropractic after completing all outstanding units within the qualifying year in Australia.

After I graduate, what do I have to do in order to be eligible to practise in Canada?

The Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board requires completion of three examinations prior to gaining licensure to practice in Canada. Contact the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board for examination details: Website: http://www.cceb.ca.

Macquarie graduates arrange to take all examinations on their return to Canada. For information on requirements specific to each state or province contact the relevant licensing boards: www.cceb.ca/english/links/boards.htm
